Easy to Follow Steps to Remove a Gravy Stain

Enjoying a dinner party at your home doesn't mean that you need to buy new carpets each time. When the time comes for you to entertain, print out these instructions from Colonial Cleanpro and have them ready to act quick when the inevitable gravy spill occurs.

  1. Starting with a dry piece of cleaning cloth or old white towel, gently absorb any gravy sitting on the top of your carpets or upholstery. Be sure that you don't make the stain worse with rubbing by gently blotting the area.
  2. Take some regular carpet detergent and mix in a teaspoon of white vinegar with about a liter of warm water. Once this solution has mixed, soak your cleaning cloth.
  3. Concentrating on small parts at a time, gently blot the cloth and solution over the area. Be sure to continue to re-soak the cloth as it becomes dry to avoid moving the stain as you clean.
  4. With a separate and clean cloth, soak in clean water and gently soak into the area to lift and remove any remaining solution or gravy residue.
  5. If you find that the above steps haven't removed your stain then start with #1 and follow the steps again. When gravy stains occur, they can often be a little stubborn, so keep at it until the stain is removed.
