Whether the use of your fireplace is for necessity, luxury, or perhaps a bit of both, there is certainly much to be enjoyed about your fireplace in your home. It can provide both warmth and welcome. However, there is one byproduct of using the fireplace that might just reak havoc on your carpet, soot. Here at Colonial Cleanpro we would like to provide some tips for you to get that unsightly soot out of your carpet fibers with relative ease. Remember though, that soot is quite difficult to remove and may take a few tries.

- Firstly, if there are large pieces of soot on the carpet, you may choose to vacuum them up. If they’re a bit trickier, but still individually visible, try using a dull knife to remove the pieces before continuing with other treatment options
- Now, sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch on the affected area to help absorb the stain
- Give it at least an hour, longer is better, to sit
- Vacuum up the debris from this process
- Next, you’ll need to apply dry-cleaning fluid to a rag and blot the stain
- Switch to a clean cloth to remove the rest of the fluid from the stain
- As you continue to see need, continue to apply the fluid to the area
- Once you’ve seen that the stain is actually gone, allow the area to dry naturally

Now that you’ve found the right carpet we know that you’ll be eager to keep it clean for as long as possible. If you have experienced soot or any other stains and are not sure you’ll be able to get them out yourself, be sure to contact the professionals at Colonial Cleanpro for carpet cleaning in Petersburg, (804) 898-3363. Remember, don’t just steam your carpets, clean your carpets!
